One of Jesus' twelve disciples, from the region of Cana.

Mark 3:18and Andrew, and Philip, and Bartholomew, and Matthew, and Thomas, and Alphaeus' son James, and Thaddaeus, and Cananaean Simon;
Matthew 10:4Simon the Cananaean, and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed him.

It is presumed that he was a Zealot, as he is recorded as a Zealot in the Gospel of Luke.

Acts 1:13And when they were come in, they went up into an upper room, where abode both Peter, and John, and James, and Andrew, Philip, and Thomas, Bartholomew, and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon the Zealot, and Judas the son of James.
