The Tabernacle was where God's Ark of the Covenant was kept. After the Exodus, after giving the stone tablets of the covenant at Mount Sinai, God Himself commanded the construction of a portable tent to house the Ark of the Covenant, the details of which are found in Exodus 25 and Exodus 35. The structure of this Tabernacle later became the prototype for the structure of the Temple. The Tabernacle was broadly composed of the Outer Court, the Holy Place, and the Most Holy Place. The Outer Court was also called the Outer Sanctuary or the Court of the Gentiles, and it was here that all basic sacrifices, such as offering sacrifices, were performed. Non-Hebrews could also come here to participate in the sacrifices. 
## Structure of the Tabernacle ### Tabernacle Gate There was only one Tabernacle gate, facing east. This signifies that the only way to salvation is through Jesus Christ. ### Altar of Burnt Offering Upon entering the court, the first thing encountered is the Altar of Burnt Offering. (See Altar of Burnt Offering) ### Laver After offering sacrifices at the Altar of Burnt Offering, one must wash their hands and feet at the laver before entering the Holy Place.
Exodus 30:17“You shall also make a basin of bronze, and its base of bronze, in which to wash. You shall put it between the Tent of Meeting and the altar, and you shall put water in it.Exodus 30:18Aaron and his sons shall wash their hands and their feet in it.Exodus 30:19When they go into the Tent of Meeting, they shall wash with water, that they not die; or when they come near to the altar to minister, to burn an offering made by fire to Yahweh.Exodus 30:20So they shall wash their hands and their feet, that they not die. This shall be a statute forever to them, even to him and to his descendants throughout their generations.”Exodus 30:21Moreover Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,
