Jeroboam I was the person who led a rebellion in the Kingdom of Israel, established the Northern Kingdom of Israel, and became its first king. He was from the tribe of Ephraim, a man from Zeredah, the son of Nebat, and his mother was Zeruah.

1 Kings 11:26This was the reason why he lifted up his hand against the king: Solomon built Millo, and repaired the breach of his father David’s city.

솔로몬밀로를 건축할 때에 역사 감독이 되었다가 솔로몬의 가혹한 정치를 보고 나올 때에 선지자 아히야를 만나 아이햐로부터 이스라엘 열 지파의 왕이 되리라는 예언을 들었다. 이 소식을 들은 솔로몬이 죽이려하자 애굽으로 도망하여 시삭왕에게 위탁하고 있었다.

1 Kings 11:27The man Jeroboam was a mighty man of valor; and Solomon saw the young man that he was industrious, and he put him in charge of all the labor of the house of Joseph.1 Kings 11:28At that time, when Jeroboam went out of Jerusalem, the prophet Ahijah the Shilonite found him on the way. Now Ahijah had clad himself with a new garment; and the two of them were alone in the field.1 Kings 11:29Ahijah took the new garment that was on him, and tore it in twelve pieces.1 Kings 11:30He said to Jeroboam, “Take ten pieces; for Yahweh, the God of Israel, says, ‘Behold, I will tear the kingdom out of the hand of Solomon, and will give ten tribes to you1 Kings 11:31(but he shall have one tribe, for my servant David’s sake and for Jerusalem’s sake, the city which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel);1 Kings 11:32because that they have forsaken me, and have worshiped Ashtoreth the goddess of the Sidonians, Chemosh the god of Moab, and Milcom the god of the children of Ammon. They have not walked in my ways, to do that which is right in my eyes, and to keep my statutes and my ordinances, as David his father did.1 Kings 11:33“ ‘However I will not take the whole kingdom out of his hand; but I will make him prince all the days of his life, for David my servant’s sake whom I chose, who kept my commandments and my statutes;1 Kings 11:34but I will take the kingdom out of his son’s hand, and will give it to you, even ten tribes.1 Kings 11:35I will give one tribe to his son, that David my servant may have a lamp always before me in Jerusalem, the city which I have chosen for myself to put my name there.1 Kings 11:36I will take you, and you shall reign according to all that your soul desires, and shall be king over Israel.1 Kings 11:37It shall be, if you will listen to all that I command you, and will walk in my ways, and do that which is right in my eyes, to keep my statutes and my commandments, as David) my servant did; that I will be with you, and will build you a sure house, as I built for David, and will give Israel to you.1 Kings 11:38I will afflict the offspring of David for this, but not forever.’ ”1 Kings 11:39Therefore Solomon) sought to kill Jeroboam; but Jeroboam arose, and fled into Egypt)), to Shishak king of Egypt, and was in Egypt until the death of Solomon.1 Kings 11:40Now the rest of the acts of Solomon), and all that he did, and his wisdom, aren’t they written in the book of the acts of Solomon?

1 Kings 12:25Jeroboam said in his heart, “Now the kingdom will return to David’s house.1 Kings 12:26If this people goes up to offer sacrifices in Yahweh’s house at Jerusalem, then the heart of this people will turn again to their lord, even to Rehoboam) king of Judah; and they will kill me, and return to Rehoboam king of Judah.”1 Kings 12:27So the king took counsel, and made two calves of gold; and he said to them, “It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem. 하나님은 이에 진노하셔서 그 아들 아비야를 쳐서 죽게 하셨다. 또한 여로보암이 죽고 그 아들 나답이 계승하였으나 2년만에 죽게되어 그 왕조는 끝나버리게 된다.
