[See Patriarchs of Israel] Judah (son of Jacob) is the fourth son born to Jacob (son of Isaac) and Leah. ### Son Born in Praise He is the son born to Jacob (son of Isaac) and Leah. Initially, Jacob loved Rachel more than Leah, so Leah had much sorrow. God looked upon Leah and gave her four sons. When Judah, the last, was born, Rachel offered praise to God.
Genesis 29:30Yahweh saw that Leah was hated, and he opened her womb, but Rachel was barren.Genesis 29:31Leah conceived, and bore a son, and she named him Reuben. For she said, “Because Yahweh has looked at my affliction; for now my husband will love me.”Genesis 29:32She conceived again, and bore a son, and said, “Because Yahweh has heard that I am hated, he has therefore given me this son also.” She named him Simeon.Genesis 29:33She conceived again, and bore a son. She said, “Now this time my husband will be joined to me, because I have borne him three sons.” Therefore his name was called Levi.Genesis 29:34She conceived again, and bore a son. 요셉(야곱의 아들)이 아버지 야곱으로부터 총애를 받자 형제들의 질투를 받게 되었다. 그러던 와중 멀리 떨어진 곳에 요셉이 찾아오는 것을 보고 다른 형제들이 요셉을 죽이기로 모의한다. 그 순간에도 유다는 죽이지 말고 상인에게 팔도록 하여 그의 생명을 구한다.
