Son of Elimelech and Naomi. During the time of the Judges, when there was a famine, the entire family migrated to the land of Moab. There, he married Orpah, a Moabite woman, but died without leaving any children.

Ruth 1:1In the days when the judges ruled, there was a famine in the land. So a man from Judah Bethlehem went to live for a while in the country of Moab, he and his wife and two sons.Ruth 1:2The man’s name was Elimelech, his wife’s name was Naomi, and the names of his two sons were Mahlon and Kilion. They were Ephrathites from Bethlehem, Judah. And they went to Moab and lived there.Ruth 1:3Now Naomi’s husband Elimelech died, and she was left with her two sons.Ruth 1:4They married Moabite women, one named Orpah and the other Ruth. After they had lived there about ten years,Ruth 1:5both Mahlon and Kilion also died, and Naomi was left without her two sons and her husband.
Ruth 4:9Then Boaz said to the elders and all the people, “You are witnesses today that I have bought from Naomi all that belonged to Elimelech and Kilion and Mahlon.Ruth 4:10I have also acquired Ruth the Moabite, Mahlon’s widow, to be my wife, in order to maintain the name of the dead with his property, so that his name will not disappear from among his family or from his hometown. You are witnesses today!”
